No tax increase for Graduate students

The U.S. government is trying to pass a new tax reform right now and it’s going to impact a lot of people in a negative way, regardless of how great they say it is. This bill will negatively impact a large majority of graduate students pursuing post-secondary education. The bill will require graduate students receiving tuition waivers to pay taxes on that money (which is currently nontaxable income) as if they received that money as a paycheck. This will leave graduate students with a tax bill of somewhere around $6,000 to over $10,000 in some cases. This is going to impact graduate schooling across the nation, ESPECIALLY that of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields. The STEM field makes up 57% of the people that will be impacted by this bill. This is going to greatly reduce the number of people that decide to go on to get an advanced degree and make it impossible for others. The House of Representatives, senate, and the president all think this bill is a great idea. Please help us try to change their minds!
