Hi neighbors! Recently, I heard some sad news from my friend, Bobby Adams of the ASL Group. Bobby was a longtime patron of Vito's, whom many of you knew from his farmstand on Plainfield Avenue. Vito's stand was a community staple, a landmark. . .and it was a symbol of what made this town great. Bobby recently learned that a portion of Vito's property is in an agreement to be subdivided and sold (to a builder..... for condos). According to my email conversation with Mr. Bussiculo from the township, the property is already zoned residential so someone could build there. As of this email, no plans have been approved, but the town should "know more in the next few weeks" according to Mr. Bussiculo. The property is currently under negotiation for sale, I assume, pending the decision of the town to subdivide.
As many of you know, I work for Bobby Adams of ASL Group, a local landscaping company. During our conversation about Vito's location he said he wished he knew the property had gone up for sale. He would like to purchase it and put up a new "Vito's" for the town, right down to the trademark red paint and "Vito's" in white, while building and maintaining Vito's park free of charge.
Bobby is looking for the community's help in blocking the upcoming approval of plans to rezone and subdivide the land for condos. If we make our voices heard, it is my hope the town will deny the request. The executor (a long time friend of Vito) is willing to sell the property to Bobby Adams to build the farm stand in his friend's honor.
I believe most of you in Berkeley Heights feel disheartened by all the new townhouses and condos slated to be built in the NY Mart/Kings property. Haven't we had enough of this? Our quaint little town is set to burst at the seams with all this development!!!
