Save our school from more devastating cuts

Just 2 years after losing 35 members of staff and suffering huge budget restrictions, Langdon Park School is facing another restructuring plan which includes the loss of 9 support staff and 9 teachers. In the past 2 years, the everyday running of the school has suffered and we have struggled to maintain the standards of teaching that we are all proud of. This new wave of cuts will be devastating and will seriously affect the students' education as well as making 18 people jobless.
In addition to these devastating job losses and cuts, many members of staff are facing substantial cuts in their salary.
We are extremely concerned that students will be hugely affected by:
- a cut of 1.5 hours of teaching per week
- an increase in class sizes at Key Stage 3 to 30 students
- less support in lessons
- less curriculum time for each subject at GCSE
- less support staff available for their safety and emotional balance
- poorer results due to a lack of teachers and an increase in workload.
We want the school and Tower Hamlets Council to explore all alternatives before axing staff. For example, they are insisting that not only does the school clear any budget deficit, but also builds up a surplus of over £400,000. This doubles the size of the proposed cuts - the surplus is supposed to be for a "rainy day" - well it's pouring now so this money should be used instead to keep teachers and support staff in the classroom, not sit in a bank. The borough could also renegotiate the contract the school currently has with G4S which is preventing us from hiring out our amazing sports facilities.
We also want someone to be held accountable for the debt the school got into a couple of years ago. Huge sums of money disappeared and no proper investigation was carried out. The staff are now paying the price.
There is hope that we can stop this restructuring plan if we take action now and get all the support we can. Thanks for signing and sharing!
