I am a traditionally certified educator (licensed in Iowa, Indiana and now Minnesota), yet am also a Teach for America Member. Do what's right; there might be a "surplus" of traditional teachers, but that doesn't mean they WANT to teach in the highest-need schools...nor does it mean they are qualified for that school (with regards to life experiences, mission, beliefs, etc.)

I work in special education in a very high needs school and understand the importance of giving our kids who need the most, the best!

Low income students deserve the same opportunities as their more affluent counterparts. The education gap between inner city and suburban students in Minneapolis is atrocious. We need more passionate, hard working teachers working toward closing this gap. Despite the fact that TFA corps members go through a nontraditional teaching route, at the end of the day, their goal is the same as veteran, traditional teachers': to provide the best opportunity possible for their students and to make a difference in their lives. After all, isn't that what it's all about?

I am a teacher and school leader and have seen the difference it makes when principals have the ability to select the most effective teachers for our students.

I am a high school teacher that was licensed out of state. Even though I am a native Minnesotan, have a Master's degree, did a full year of student teaching, and have taught for two years in the state with excellent administrative reviews, the state does not recognize me as a qualified teacher. Because there is no alternative pathway in place, I have to spend 3 years and another $10,000 completing a MN licensing program. If I did not have family here, there is no way I would stay in this state; I would have a valid license in almost every other state in the country. Minnesota is losing valuable educators due to their inaction on alternative licensure!

The success and greatness of this country depends on well
educated children. This program provides that opportunity. It should be
supported enthusiastically.
