Put a halt to the Bayou Bridge Pipeline
This petition had 5,719 supporters
Energy Tranfer Partners, the company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline, has proposed a pipeline that is to bring crude oil from Illinois and North Dakota to Louisiana and will go through the Louisiana bayous and wetlands. The pipeline, if to spill, will affect predominantly black areas and it has the potential to poison up to 700 bodies of water. The communities in St. James Parish, where the pipeline is proposed to go through, have already suffered from the pollution of oil tankers being present in the area. The pipeline will definitely cause an increase of the amount of carbon released in the atmosphere, therefore contributing to global warming. Also, if the pipeline were to spill, the oil would increase the erosion in the area. Much of Louisiana is facing constant erosion today and oil is a huge factor in the process. Please sign this petition to help save the wetlands and its communities!
