Bring Joey Odoms back to the Ravens
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
Since 2014, the Baltimore Ravens have been truly blessed by the pipes of Joey Odoms as he serenades 70,000+ fans at M&T Bank Stadium with his rendition of our National Anthem.
Unfortunately, Ravens fans will no longer enjoy Odoms singing The Star Spangled Banner, as the former member of the National Guard, who had also served in Afghanistan, has decided to step down due to the outpouring of negative fan reaction to last week's protests by several Ravens players.
Simply put, he deserved so much more than to be driven away from a team he loves, a city he loves, and an anthem he loves. Mr. Odoms contributions go widely unnoticed at each and every home game, but he deserves all of the praise that we can offer for a man who pours out his heart and soul for his country while singing our national anthem for the masses at M&T Bank Stadium.
While I simply cannot speak for Mr. Odoms beyond my interpretation of his Instagram post detailing his departure from his position with the Ravens, I believe it's quite clear that the animosity, anger and hate filled sentiments directed at the players and ownership of the Baltimore Ravens was enough to convince him that this was not a place he felt safe, nor a place he felt he'd be respected for his views that he may share with those in protest.
My goal is ultimately to show Joey Odoms that we care. That for every hate-filled message he saw directed at this organization, there are so many more that have his back in support. That the Baltimore Ravens fans would love nothing more than to see him return to the field on Sunday afternoons to belt out that National Anthem as we put our differences aside and take pride in our great country.
And if by chance Mr. Odoms decides not to return to the team? At least he leaves knowing there's plenty of folks supporting him and wishing him the best.
