There's a lot of talk that goes on about children being bullied, intimidated, and harassed in the schools, but what about adults being bullied, intimidated, and harassed in the workplace and then being fired in retaliation for filing complaints.

I am a registered nurse in the state of Indiana and this happened to me one year ago. It was absolutely a retaliation firing for filing a complaint twice in 7 months with the corporate office for continued bullying, intimidation, and harassment by the local director. In an 8 month period in 2017, 23 of my coworkers either quit or were fired because of or by the bully. Several complaints were filed by multiple employees about the treatment by "the boss", yet nothing was done by the corporate office. Let me also add the owner of the company is an attorney in Dallas, Texas.

Our social worker was fired as she lay in a hospital bed with a chest tube. She was immediately without health insurance.

After consulting an attorney in Indianapolis, an attorney in South Bend, and the EEOC, I was told by all three that "INDIANA CONDONES FIRING WITHOUT CAUSE". I worked anywhere from 65-95 hours PER WEEK, sometimes 13 days in a row, and sometimes 36 straight hours. My contract was for 44 salaried hours. Yet the director would say "You're on salary." I stayed because I'm a nurse and nurses do what they have to do for their patients and families.

In my case, after I was fired, the bullying, intimidation, and harassment continued. I was threatened by the company's attorney and the local director made false accusations about me. I had an attorney send their attorney a letter at that time and I never heard from them again. I was told by an attorney after interviewing my coworkers that I had a legitimate defamation lawsuit. Unfortunately I chose not to pursue that route because that doesn't solve the big picture issue. I'm looking bigger. I'm looking to help the people of Indiana who have suffered bullying, intimidation, and harassment, or have been fired by their employers for retaliation of filing complaints for the same. Just because it doesn't involve sex, doesn't make it right. THE LAWS IN INDIANA NEED TO CHANGE.

I have a strong reputation in the community with doctors, other healthcare professionals, patients, families, and facilities. I had multiple job offers within days of my firing, but many of my coworkers were not as lucky. All around, this situation is wrong and "the rules" in INDIANA need to change.
