Why this petition matters

Started by chronically ill patients

This petition requests that the federal government allocate more than the minuscule 15 million dollars a year to the research and treatment of long term COVID-19. Signers of this petition seek to acknowledge the catastrophic financial and emotional burden of long term COVID-19; its effect on individuals and families who can no longer work due to debilitating ongoing symptoms.

This petition invites the Biden-Harris administration to educate themselves about ME/CFS, and the current research that suggests it is infection mediated. Researchers at Stanford University and the Open Medicine Foundation are ready and willing to tackle this problem, if only they had more funding. By prioritizing the research and treatment of long term COVID-19, this administration will be providing much needed hope and support to the multitudes of individuals, still suffering the after effects of contracting COVID-19. They will also be be helping a segment of the population with chronic illness that has been cruelly abandoned by the healthcare system.

Do not underestimate the sheer amount of damage long term COVID-19 can do to the economy. Please increase funding to something more proportional to this crisis.
