Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool: Stand down as Mayor of Liverpool (as you promised) with 60,000 signatures calling for you to go.

Joe Anderson was made the first directly elected mayor of Liverpool in May 2012, after receiving a 57.7% share of the vote. However, many Liverpudlians feel they did not even get the chance to vote on a mayor as 69% of the electorate did not turn up to vote; but when presented with the opportunity for a referendum to allow Liverpool the chance to vote again, the council (which is lead by Joe Anderson) decided against it. Luckily he announced in October 2012 that he would stand down if he recieved 60,000 signatures asking him to do so.
So why should we follow this up?
His bullying tactics in order to get what he wants have left him completely unscrutinised. The committies in place that ought to be keeping an eye on the Joe Anderson are completely in his pocket and bend to his every will.
Some of his many failings include:
- Botching the 'city deal' which could have landed the city upwards of £1 billion in Government funding like Leeds and Manchester, instead of the £130 million which went to Acadamies which the Government had planned to fund seperately.
- His poorly planned and untested decision to suspend bus lanes, instead of closing the unused ones. The decision, many feel, has been not been properly discussed This will allow motorists to drive willy nilly through the city which many fear will cause accidents and put pedestrians at risk.
And the straw the broke the camels back, with his unprecedented decision to take over the cities entire financial responsibilities after the mysterious resignation of his deputy Paul Brant.
Do we really trust just one man solely to take all the decisions over the city AND manage its finances. Where will he find the time? Do we trust a man who has already cost the city of Liverpool £900 million? And now he claims the city could be bankrupt in two years, now whose fault is that?
Its time for Joe Anderson step down so we can put an end for his general incompetance and neglect of out fair city. Lets toss out the trash and repair the damage that he has made.
