#CA.PhysicalTherapy started this petition to State Representative Joaquin Arambula and

In May 2020 the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, proposed a revised budget which would cut funding for physical therapy services through the Medi-Cal Program.

This proposal saves the State of California $5.6 million, BUT loses $14.2 million in federal matching funds we receive for these services. This makes it fiscally irresponsible and illogical.

These services have been proposed to be eliminated during past recessions, however this "cut" has always been rejected, because of how critically important physical therapy services are in the spectrum of care.

Some examples of the types of important services physical therapists and physical therapist assistants provide, include services to patients with joint replacements, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, injuries of all kinds, experienced strokes, head and neurological injuries, burn victims, and more.

As physical therapists, we keep California residents pain free, physically active and healthy. This allows them to work and be active members in their community. Improving pain and movement also helps to prevent chronic conditions from forming. Losing physical therapy benefits will be a big blow to Californians.

We, the undersigned, oppose the May Revision Budget Proposal 2020-21 which would cut funding for physical therapy services through the Medi-Cal Program.
