Dalton McClure started this petition to President Joan Ferrini-Mundy

Along with many other branches of the US government, and other states and forms of government around the world. Maine was very slow to respond the outbreak. We were the second last state to have no reported cases, not due to lack of cases but in fact lack of testing, and are now at 2,000 cases and around 53 deaths. Students have been blindsided and put in a position alongside faculty as well to rush out a plan for some classes which absolutely cannot be amended, leading to an intense spike in difficulty due to poor internet, limited student to faculty interaction, and worry about family and the situation around the world. Being such an unprecedented situation, I propose, alongside all currently and formerly enrolled students at the University of Maine to ask Joan Ferrini-Mundy to make the decision to curve students Ds to Cs to prevent students from failing due to inherently rushed and flawed grading and testing procedures that have not been field tested like the classroom has, as well as HALF tuition reimbursement 100$ and 500$ for out of staters is pitiful, some people are art students or taking labs that have some impossible in-person component. There’s a time to introduce robust, effective, online learning and it certainly has not taken place during the world’s great pandemic outbreak in 100 years.
