20's Plenty for Sible Hedingham

As a fairly new comer to the village, I have been quite shocked at the speed vehicles travel down the side roads. I have 2 small children and 2 dogs, some cars also seem to forget to use their indicators which is even more of a hazard when zooming rounds the bends. I am a governor at St Peters Primary and it does shock me some if the culprits are parents /carers. One of my roles is to help prevent any incidents. The pathway is narrow and unfortunately nothing can be done about that however the speed in which vehicles travel at can be amended with your support.

I am suggesting that if we can change the speed down a few of the major routes that children travel to school we can hopefully prevent any accidents.. School road, church street, Alexander Road, Recreation Road, Station Road and Christmas Fields

I appreciate that this isn't popular decision but as no one else is trying to do anything about it I would at least like your support in helping to make a difference.

community wide 20 mph speed limits are now recognised as the single most effective action that local councils can take to promote health and safety in their communities.

20 mph wide area limits are widely accepted in countries across the world, already apply to 15 million people in the UK and are supported by the Word Health Organisation and Directors fo Public Health (nationally).

20 mph wide area limits target all residential streets where people live, play or work.

20 mph wide area limits are implemented without the expense and aggravation of traffic calming measures such as speed bumps.

20 mph wide area limits drastically reduce road signage and the confusion. 20 mph signs at entry points to the town announce a common mandatory speed limit throughout.

20 mph wide area limits improve traffic flow and reduce fuel consumption, congestion and pollution, are supported by 75 – 80% of people as the right speed limit for most streets and      promote a culture change in how public spaces are used.
