On November 30, 2021, I was involved in a hit and run in the Ballard Parking Deck. This is not the first time that I have been involved in an incident of this kind. Luckily, no one was injured but the reality is that the situation could have ended very differently. I feel the need to shed light on this issue because I fear for my own safety and the safety of our community members. The absence of security cameras in the parking decks enables people to commit crimes and escape without fearing the consequences. Why must we wait for a violent crime to occur before we finally decide to implement measures that would reduce the likelihood of the crime occurring in the first place? By placing security cameras in the parking decks, we are further ensuring the safety of our community while also taking a stand against acts of violence directed towards our residents and visitors.
