Bring the No 19 Uno Violet bus back to Kingsley Road, Northampton, once an hour

The Northampton Chronicle & Echo is petitioning to reinstate the No 19 Uno Violet bus on its original route through Kingsley Road and Kingsthorpe Grove once an hour.
Uno revised its bus routes in August to better accommodate the students and staff of the University of Northampton. But as a side effect, hundreds of Northampton's elderly residents have been left stranded without a reliable bus service.
The new No 19 route completely omits Kingsley Road and Kingsthorpe Grove. Since the change on August 5, dozens of pensioners have contacted the Chronicle & Echo to say they are now "prisoners in their own homes".
One 76-year-old resident, Pat McGrath, used to catch the No 19 bus five days a week. Now she says she hasn’t seen her friends since the beginning of August.
She said: “I used to go catch the bus and go into town to see my daughter for a coffee every Saturday. You can forget that now. The cabs there and back costs £12 a trip. I just stay in now.”
Some say they have not seen friends or left the house since the beginning of August.
Another pensioner, Fred Bicknells, said: “I feel like a prisoner in my own home. I miss my town centre. I miss meeting with friends.
“I’ve had elderly ladies crying to me. They say, ‘what am I going to do?’”
The Violet bus used to run once every 10 minutes down Kingsley Road and Kingsthorpe Grove. We are asking Uno to look at their maps and find a way to run it on its original routes once every hour.
Pat said: "Once every two hours would do. Even just twice a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We just can't get by as it is."
If you or someone you know who relies on buses as a lifeline to see friends, visit town and go shopping, please sign our petition to show Uno how valuable their bus routes are to the people of Northampton.
