All signing either have children, or know someone who has children in the Elementary and/or High School in the Jim Thorpe Area School District. All are concerned for the safety of the children.

The bus driver's should not be expected to drive and babysit at the same time. Although we as parents do our best to educate our own children on how to behave properly while riding the bus, unfortunately there are other children who think it is okay to bully our children, and do not know how to keep their hands to themselves. We as parents want to feel our children are safe when riding the bus, and by having bus aides riding the bus alongside our children, we feel, is the best way to help prevent these situations from happening in the first place.

It is not fair for children nor the parents to have to go through the pain of being bullied and picked on. We find that although we bring it to the school's attention to try to rectify the problem, it is still hurtful to all involved, and is not always a guarantee it won't happen again.

Besides the bullying concern, it is unsafe for anything to happen while the bus is in motion, and to risk having the bus driver take their attention off the road to acknowledge any situations. I find this is a very hard job to have, and it is something to be concerned about.

All who are signing agree our schools should look into this matter and consider lending a hand to our bus drivers, and most importantly our children.

Besides the "bullying" concern, it is unsafe for anything to happen while the bus is in motion, and to risk having the bus driver take their attention off the road to acknowledge any situations. I find this is a very hard job to have, and it is something to be concerned about.
