Bring back the Lichfield Mercury as a paid for newspaper

This petition is calling on Reach PLC, the owners of the Lichfield Mercury, to bring back the Lichfield Mercury as a paid for newspaper. The Lichfield Mercury was a free newspaper, and has not been printed since April. With a population of 104,000 Lichfield district needs a quality local paper. A paid for weekly newspaper will ensure good quality content, and people in Lichfield district will be able to rely on the Lichfield Mercury for local news, events and topical issues. The population of the district is increasing with new housing developments, and a local newspaper is vital to keep residents informed of what is happening in the district. The neighbouring title of the Tamworth Herald is a good example of a paid for paper costing £1.30, that is full of news and events within the Tamworth district, and is part of the same group. The Lichfield Mercury should be run along the same lines as the Tamworth Herald, and available to buy in local newsagents, as well as the option for delivery. As a paid for weekly newspaper, the Mercury will be not be as reliant on advertising revenue for it to thrive and it can focus more on good content that the residents within the district will be keen to read. It will also carry public notices, and keep residents up to date with what is going on in the district.
