The families of Mcallen are saying, "It's time to reopen the playgrounds!" At public spaces throughout the city, we've seen exercise equipment, benches, and stores open, while the playground and swing sets are completely gated up.

In such a perilous year, our city should encourage the gift of sunshine, play, and activity in a healthy and safe way for all, especially the youngest generation.

In children's eyes, 2020 has been full of isolation, fear, and change. They are not able to see their friends, visit family, or go to school- causing mental, emotional, and physical health to decline in many. 

An open playground is a safe way to promote physical fitness, vitamin D absorptions, and joy! 

On November 29th, 2020, Dr. Fauci said, "If you look at the data, the spread among children and from children is not really very big at all, not like one would have suspected."

Being that these are outdoor spaces with full ventilation, the risk of spreading Covid-19 very low, certainly less than going to a restaurant.  If necessary, we invite the city to set limits on the number of children allowed at one time, set up a sanitation station, or even require masks.
