Urge Representative Jim Cooper to Support Reproductive Healthcare
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
We are a collective of concerned individuals from the 5th Congressional District advocating for reproductive health and women’s rights to access to healthcare. Currently, an ideological war is being waged on women’s bodies, and it is the duty of your office to protect Tennesseans from such conflict. As a result of our country’s current political climate, now more than ever, it is critical we express our views on legislation aimed at reforming healthcare.
We urge you to join Rep. Judy Chu and other members of congress in vocalizing your support for H. R. 1322 “Women’s Health Protection Act of 2017” in session. As the debate for this legislation continues, we encourage you to consider the following:
The Women’s Health Protection Act of 2017 would ensure that abortion services continue to available to women and their families. Safe and legal abortions have numerous social and health benefits including:
61.7% decrease in risk of death from abortion
Decreased social stigma and negative self-esteem
Lower rates of poverty among women
Planned Parenthood, in its over 97 years of operation, has provided access to health services to more than 4 million people. About 79% of patients who use Planned Parenthood live below the Federal Poverty Line. Fights over funding withhold vital health services for these clients.
97% of Planned Parenthood funds are directed toward life-saving care other than abortions.
Planned Parenthood provides more than 270,000 Pap tests and more than 360,000 breast exams in a single year, critical services in detecting cancer.
Planned Parenthood, and abortion providers more generally, have the capacity to save up to 9.6 billion in costs associated with unplanned pregnancies.
A federal decision to support and protect women’s health is a strong investment in the future of our nation. Please make women’s health a higher priority for our nation by supporting reproductive legislation. The signees of the petition thank you for considering our views and we hope you will join us in advocating for access to safe abortion services.
