As an alumni, I am frankly shocked and appalled at this level of behavior. Her excuse offered is as reprehensible as it is a blatant fabrication. Never in my adult life have I been so ashamed to see a school I attended which prided itself on its inclusivity and diversity fail so spectacularly in a moment when it’s students needed it. It is at its core, a failure of leadership on the part of senior departmental management not to address the utter disrespect of that moment.
Finally on an artistic note, I find it simply terrifying that as a professor of performance that she couldn’t have at least attempted to act interested. After all, isn’t teaching students to act her job?
