Install Speed Humps on Claremont Ave between Rt. 440 and Mallory Ave.
Claremont Ave. is one of the few access routes to State Route 440 that does not have speed humps already installed. As such, high-speed traffic has been diverted to Claremont Ave.
With the recent addition of 621 residential units at the Agnes apartment complex opposite the Westside Lofts condo and townhome community, the final block of Claremont is nearly wholly residential. In addition to the residential foot traffic, the sidewalks of Claremont Ave. continue to be the primary artery between the Light Rail and the Hudson shopping complex, including the Hudson Mall, many car dealerships (cars left for service with owners using the Light Rail to travel back & forth).
Cars have increasingly been seen slamming on their brakes, swerving dangerously, and generally causing hazardous conditions for pedestrians, pets, and other vehicles as the route remains unchecked for the residential speed limit of 25 MPH. The bodies of pets have piled up over the last few months and it is only a matter of time before a commuter, shopper, renter, or home owner is killed by speeding motorists. Semi-truck traffic has even picked up, and the lumbering vehicles barrel down the street well over 25MPH.
