The Problem

This is about a tweet that Jerry Falwell Jr. posted that said, "Sorry to be crude but pastors like @plattdavid need to grow a pair. Just saying" that was made as a retweet to this tweet by @toddstarnes. The original tweet was deleted, but here is a screenshot.

Jerry Falwell Jr. is the President of Liberty University, a private christian school. In this regard he is a religious leader with many looking to him for guidance and leadership. By deleting his tweet about David Platt, he has acknowledged what he said was wrong, but has not apologized.

The Solution

During a typical week during a semester, Liberty holds an event called Convocation three times on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. At Convocation a speaker is invited to talk to the entire student body of Liberty University. From when I attended Liberty University, Jerry Falwell Jr. would typically introduce the speaker.

Many different people have been invited to speak at the past, whether religious or otherwise. Past Convocations and speakers can be found here. Typically a speaking fee is usually paid to the speaker for their talk at Convocation.

My proposed solution is this:

  1. Liberty University to invite David Platt to speak at Convocation and pay his full speaking fee.
  2. Jerry Falwell Jr to introduce David Platt and publicly apologize to him for his tweet.
