Support Maksim Isayev's request for clemency

We are gathering support for my husband, Maksim Isayev’s clemency application to be released from prison. He was only 17 years old when he took the law into his own hands in an attempt of defending a young girl who told him she was raped.
My husband has taken the responsibility for his crime with great remorse, and empathy for those affected by his actions. He is a changed man who gained a balanced perception of life, and continuously helps those who surround him. Over these 13 years, the people who came in contact with him have benefited emotionally and grown spiritually. We believe that society will gain a valuable resource and a strong mentor for our troubled youth. Please give my husband a second chance by supporting this effort. A chance, that will be used in the most positive and productive manner. We ask for your signatures in support of clemency for Maksim Isayev to present this petition before the Honorable Governor Brown.
At an early age, Maks was exposed to a traumatic incident that resulted in genuine mistrust in the authority’s willingness to protect the public. As an innocent child, it was difficult for him to comprehend that sometimes the people who have the power to defend others, would close their eyes to injustices. He was bullied, viciously attacked by other kids and was hospitalized for 3 days for the injuries. Inaction from authorities and the school staff broke his spirit. He dropped out of school at the age of 14. This instilled a belief that he had to look out for himself and those close him because sometimes no one else would. He took on the role of a vigilante. This led up to the day he took a life, in efforts to defend, protect and give justice for the pain cause on another.
At the age of 17, he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. For the last 13 years, Maksim was determined to change himself and his life for the better, regardless of the circumstances and the environment. He started by earning his GED, completed numerous life skills programs which were offered through the prison educational system, graduated from Stratford Career Institute with the highest honors, and continues to improve himself. His education as a drug and substance abuse counselor has given him the opportunity to serve other inmates and help them through their personal traumas. He makes a difference in other people’s lives because he deeply cares.
In the summer of 2016, his sentence was changed to 25 to life with the chance for parole. Today, we ask you to join his friends and family as we are gathering public signatures in support of clemency for Maksim Isayev. Thank you for taking your time and reading this petition.
