San Onofre Nuclear Waste Relocation

Please sign my petition to ask California Governor Brown to start planning NOW to move the 3 million pounds of nuclear waste away from the coastline and urban centers of Southern California.
I am an environmentally concerned 8th grade student at Pacific Beach Middle School, and am interested in the problem of the nuclear waste being stored at San Onofre.
I have learned that after about twenty years on the beach, the canisters holding the nuclear waste can begin to develop salt induced cracks. Obviously, cracked canisters cannot be transported from their current location, forcing the canisters to be reprocessed at San Onofre.
Reprocessing nuclear waste canisters is an unproven method, which could cost billions to our future generation and will be very harmful to the environment.
A better solution is to move the nuclear waste canisters to an inland location such as Fishel, CA. Fishel is away from National and State Parks, earthquake faults, Indian Reservations, salty sea air, and large populations of people.
If the nuclear waste isn’t moved, then future generations will have to pay for the waste to be reprocessed on the coastline of San Onofre, before being moved, costing billions of dollars.
Sign this petition if you believe that the State of California should have the nuclear waste at San Onofre relocated to an inland location such as Fishel, before the 20 years it could take for the canisters to crack.
