California needs more funding for a High Speed Rail System.

The United States of America has the 22nd best high speed rail system in the world. If we want the country or even the state of California to be a safe haven and a truly amazing place, we need an advanced infrastructure system to support it. I need your help to help convince the governor of California to bring more funding to the High Speed Rail program.

What is this High Speed Rail System for California, and what would it entail?

It is a train that would connect San Francisco and Los Angeles and would travel through the Central Valley. It would reach speeds of 350 kph (220 mph) and would take a total of 2 hours and 40 minutes. It would cost between $120 and $140 per ticket. It is expected to have 11.3 million riders and generate $625 million per year by 2022, rising steadily until having an estimated 33.1 million riders and $1 billion, 500 million per year by 2040.

There are 2 phases to this project. The 1st phase will run from Los Angeles to San Francisco, and expected to be completed by 2029. The 2nd phase will extend the lines to run from Merced to Sacramento and from Los Angeles to San Diego, and is expected to be completed by 2040. The current problems it faces are having to get approval and small amounts of property from farmers in the central valley, and not having enough funding.

What does this mean for Californians?

While having a huge upfront cost of around $90 billion, it would bring in an estimated $625 million per year. While some farmers and businesses would have to give up land between Merced and Bakersfield, it would not be a very large quantity of land and would benefit way more people than would potentially be harmed by it. As I mentioned previously, it would enable commuters to get from L.A to S.F or vice versa in 2 hours and 40 minutes.

How can you help?

You can start by signing this petition to show Gov. Jerry Brown that Californians truly want this new system, and for it to run with little issues. The more funding we get for this project, the quicker people can start commuting from Northern California to Southern California (and vice versa) cheaply and efficiently. Please sign this petition to get more funding for the High Speed Rail Project!
