My name is Gurpreet S. Gosal. I am sharing this in hope of your support for a sentence commutation. I am currently sentenced to 35 years to life with the possibility of Parole, for a Second Degree murder I received 15 years to life and 20 years for a gun enhancement. My request to Governor Jerry Brown will be a sentence commutation of 15 years to life. This will make me eligible for a parole board hearing after serving 15 years.

I was incarcerated for a murder I committed in 2008. The man whom I murdered was only 26 years old. He was a very dedicated son, a caring brother, a loving husband, a great father, and a friend to many. He had a long future ahead of him, for that he was determined to make life better for his family. When I took part in his murder; I took him away from his family, his children, his friend, and his future. He did not deserve to be murdered, nor did his family deserve to go through so much agony and devastation. I take full responsibility for my actions. I am deeply remorseful and ashamed of my actions.

I had many issues that led me to being able to commit such a callous act against him. I needed outside help to understand how I was able to commit this crime. I got help through self-help groups, from staff volunteers, spiritual beliefs, and education. I needed to address many issues and causative factors about myself, so that I could become a productive member in my community; whether my community is in prison or an outside community.

I am determined to never again become that emotionally numb person I once was. I am determined to never create another victim. This commitment to better myself has led me to have great respect for all rules and regulations. In my 10 years of incarceration, I have not committed any violence or rule violation. I have dedicated myself to education and to completely re-invent myself, and to honor the life I took. I assist others in their rehabilitations.

I wholeheartedly thank you for your time and support. Please know that I am not entitled to your support, nor to the opportunity to be granted a commutation. I am asking for your support in hope to have an opportunity to go in front of the parole board after serving 15 years.
