Lymphoedema is a chronic condition that affects thousands of people in the UK. You can either be born with this condition (Primary Lymphoedema) or have this as a result of another condition or treatment (Secondary lymphoedema)- Such as after Lymph node remova in cancer surgery.
This debilitating condition affects the emotional, physical and social wellbeing of the people affected and their families.
This condition is under researched and under funded. Patients can pay for some treatments and surgery, but why should they ? They have a condition that requires treatment but is not recognised., Some treatments are available in Scotland but in England and will not be funded by the CCG ( or they will not accept out of area referrals !). It should be that people with this condition can Choose where to have treatment (we pay into the same system) For some people they have this condition as a result of treatment and surgery for Cancer. Have they not been through enough, instead they have a daily reminder and have to live with this condition.
This is a horrendous condition that requires careful and daily management by the sufferer. This is often as a result of Cancer treatment. Any treatment should be available no matter if it is England or Scotland. ONE NHS ... ONE SYSTEM !
