Within the North East of England there are only 15 specialist beds available to under 18s with Anorexia & Bulimia and Edinburgh is reducing it's bed to 11 from 22. This is happening all around the UK. Numbers of children requiring beds and specialist treatment in substantially increasingly whilst beds available are rapidly dwindling . I had to fight via my MP & the media to get my daughter the bed we were begging for and initially refused. By the time my daughter got a bed she was reliant on being fed by a tube and her kidneys were failing. Both of these would have been preventable had a bed been available earlier . Treatment in the community works for some children however many such as my daughter require inpatient treatment for this life threatening illness which is both mental and physical. No child or family should be left to suffer until a child is in dire straits and even at that point have to battle for a bed. We live in a first world country yet the suffering is inhumane. The longer it takes to get intervention the longer the recovery takes and the higher the risk of long-term problems.
