Despite a law passed in 2016 preventing virginity testing, police still take women and young girls to hospitals and clinics to perform the degrading test. Women are being imprisoned for failing the test despite it's inaccurate results. The test subjects victims of rape to humiliation and imprisonment for breaking laws against sex before marriage. The test contributes to the culture of silence after rape as women fear persecution for the crimes committed against them. Help pressure the UK foreign secretary into raising this issue with the Afghan government and encouraging them to enforce the law to protect victims.
