Cut fees for Nursing and Midwifery students

My daughter, Flo would like to be a midwife. This year the UK is 3,500 midwives short. The Government has just introduced University fees of £9250 for nurses and midwives who were previously exempt.   Nurses and midwives are a special case because, unlike other students, their course requires them to work in University and Hospital for 35 hours a week for 45 weeks of the year.  This demanding training schedule prohibits them supplementing their income through work. They must also be supported in accommodation and living expenses for 45 weeks rather than the 30 weeks for other students. This increase is short-sighted on the part of the Government and will lead to even greater staffing shortages in this vital area of NHS provision. Please support and sign this petition.
