Rebecca Stevenson started this petition to State Representative Jeremy Faison and

I am a grandmother in the state of Tennessee. My grandchildren were taken from their parents when the youngest was born with drugs in her system. DCS allowed us visitation only when the parents were present. Stating that Grandparents have no rights. We were told by DCS caseworker to let the parents do what they needed to do to get the children back. We followed direction and assured our grandchildren that we loved them. The parents of the children have a drug problem and relapsed. Because Grandparents have no rights in this state. My husband and I, My parents and the grandmother on the other side along with all our other family have been cut off from seeing our grandchildren.

We love our grandchildren and have filed a petition for custody that DCS is fighting. We were told these children are highly adoptable and we should let them go. They are our family.

Changing The grandparent rights in the State of Tennessee will help children stay with family. The current law is tearing families apart. Tearing families apart is not in the best interest of the children.

Foster Homes should be a last resort not a first choice. Family Placement should be first choice for children when available. Grandparents Matter.
