Why this petition matters

Started by Caroline Hanson

My husband died on the 24/07/19 my mind has been in turmoil ever since my cognitive skills I would say border on mental health because of my grief.my daughter has had to prompt me to sort out my entitlement to certain benefits bereavement benefit council tax support and universal credit.

However, I have become absolutely disgusted at the one size fits all mentally regardless of people circumstances,as I have stated I'm not functioning on all cylinders so when I'm being spoken to I'm not really taking it all in..... thank god for my son and daughter who have been at my side trying to sort things out for me .I found my universal credit meetings incredibly hard as I'm distraught I felt like a child being spoken down to  with you must do this and that . believe me if my daughter wasn't there none of it would be done . Now I'm thinking what happens to widows widower's with no one to support them universal credit is a horror story for me I was told to put a medical certificate in which I have done now they have sent me a message asking me to state what disability or illness I have that affects me from looking for work ....this to me beggers belief I have spoken to other widows who have experienced the same treatment as me. Where is human kindness and decency to another human being who is at there most vunerable when they are suffering the loss of there husband's wife's children etc.
