Adrian Brown started this petition to Jeremy Corbyn (Leader of Labour Party) and

With the looming threat of a General Election, we face the possibility of Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party, possibly aided by Nigel Farage and a print media that is 80% supportive of them, securing a victory based on lies and half-truths. If this were to happen, there is a very real risk of a damaging Tory or Tory/Farage Brexit that would be good for nobody in the UK except for the super-rich. It would also place vital services such as the NHS at risk of being sold off to greedy American corporations, massively increasing the costs of drugs and other treatments.

The only way to make absolutely sure this does not happen is for all of the opposition parties to come to an agreement not to split the anti-Tory vote by getting in each other's way. This worked very well in the recent Brecon and Radnorshire by-election, showing what can be achieved when the various parties collaborate in such a way. If the various parties can agree at a national level to come together in a formal pact and not split the anti-Tory vote, then recent polling results show that they have a very real chance of securing victory and ensuring that Boris Johnson does not retain power. If they do not collaborate, then a split anti-Tory vote will almost certainly hand unfettered power back to Boris Johnson, with all of the dangers that entails.

We therefore call on the leaders of all of the opposition parties and all independents in the UK Parliament to set aside all petty tribalism and agree a formal electoral pact with the express aim of defeating Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage. In this pact, the parties should agree to only field a single candidate in each constituency, from the party best placed to secure victory as indicated by past electoral results and recent polls. The other parties who have stood aside in that constituency should encourage their supporters to back that candidate, and encourage members of their local party to help with campaigning. Once victory has been secured and the threat of a damaging Tory Brexit permanently averted, either by a negotiated exit or a decision to remain, the pact shall be dissolved and the various parties can then resume the normal business of fighting between themselves.
