  • Jenny Day, a journalist for KYMA News in Yuma County Arizona reported fake news as real news. This journalist, wrote a story about Sex Offenders with the headline:

Released to Reoffend: News 11 investigates the sex offender next door: https://kyma.com/news/crime/2019/11/19/released-to-reoffend-news-11-investigates-the-sex-offender-next-door/

Jenny Day's entire "news story" is built around a grossly incorrect statistic that 99% of registered sex offenders re-offend. The actual government statistics for the recidivism rate of sex offenders correctly shows recidivism to be around 5% with other government based studies (DOC) putting the number a little higher, (or lower). The FACT is sex offenders have the lowest rate of recidivism ~ except those convicted of murder. You can see a great article here https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-watch/wp/2017/03/09/the-big-lie-about-sex-offenders/ and  studies here: https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/rsorp94.pdf

This petition is calling on Jenny Day to either do a new story based on the overwhelming, indisputable evidence that sex offenders have a low recidivism rate, or to resign.

Clearly this was a "scare factor" report. We want you to fix it. You did NOT report fact.
