Mental illness is suffocating. As people who actively suffer from mental illness and in the past have suffered from suicidal thoughts, we believe that the Advisory suicide prevention prevention program is ineffective and causes more stress for people suffering from mental illness (such as depression, anxiety, etc.).
Personally, we have experienced this stress before.
The lack of trigger warnings the teachers put is concerning. What LISD doesn’t seem to notice is that the suicide prevention program makes people considering suicide anxious and makes the people who have lost someone to suicide feel anxious, scared, and sad.
Not only that, but the suicide program provides inaccurate information. It tells you that there is really only one type of depression and that depression only effects people in certain ways, when depression really can effect people in very different ways.
The mental illness program does not mention any other disorders except for depression, when anxiety disorders, PTSD, and Bi-polar are very common. There are more than 40 million people in the US who have anxiety. The mental disorder program in LISD does not mention anxiety and the people who suffer from it. Depression and anxiety are both awful disorders, and considering how many people have anxiety, you’d think that LISD would mention them. People with anxiety are prone to depression and suffer on a day to day basis.

Instead of actually helping people with mental disorders, they just say some things about mental disorders and make people feel anxious. The suicide prevention program does not try to support or give out any positive messages or true things about these disorders to people who have mental disorders. They just say “people who are depressed say ___ or ___,” instead of actually trying to support people with mental problems.

LISD needs to change their suicide prevention program and make it more effective. Please help us get LISD to make a better suicide prevention program.

Please sign this petition to help people who are suicidal and need help get help and to stop LISD’s inaccurate information from spreading.
