According to CNN Senior Media Correspondent Brian Stelter, CNN made a “conscious choice not to show” Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s first news conference on January 21, 2017. The decision, according to Stelter, “was to monitor the statement and then report on it.” Spicer lied in his first press conference. We applaud CNN’s courageous decision.
Since the Trump inauguration, we have also been subjected to lies and refusals to answer direct questions by Presidential Counselor Kellyanne Conway.
We call on CNN President Zucker to direct his organization to deny live coverage to both Spicer and Conway to avert the potential for spreading “fake news” stories.
The Trump administration is testing the resolve of the nation’s fourth estate. CNN has an opportunity to salvage vestiges of press freedom in America. CNN has an opportunity to regain its place as the “most trusted name in news.”
