Keep TJHSST option for Loudoun Children

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) is a Virginia state-chartered magnet school. Ranked one of the top high schools in USA by many organizations. It is a public school operated by Fairfax County Public Schools but admits students from Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington and Prince William Counties and from the city of Falls Church. Because of its reputation, TJHSST goes through a competitive admission process, similar to very selective colleges.

Loudoun county sends approximately 80+ students every year to TJHSST. Loudoun students on average commutes 3 hours/day but are still willing to goto this competitive school to pursue their dreams.

Loudoun county is opening Academies of Loudoun (AOL) in Fall 2018. AOL is not exactly to replicate TJHSST, but to provide challenging science and math courses. Some members of school board thinks that AOL can substitute TJHSST, but it is going to take some time to catchup. By withdrawing from TJ, we will have less opportunities for kids (80+ kids get into TJ every year and 60+ in AOL. Loudoun is increasing intake to 120 but still 20 short of current situation.

This petition is to request LCPS board members to consider keeping TJHSST option for Loudoun county children

1) Until AOL catches upto standards of TJHSST

and

2) Until number of seats in AOS matches with missing TJ seats
