Over the last few weeks, there have been many new rumors circulating concerning the fate of the Howard Elementary School and/or some of the grades in that school. The most recent rumors are said to be effective Fall, 2017 and involve Kindergarten and Third Grade classes at Howard Elementary being moved to Wingate Elementary. Unfortunately, this type of unrest has been a frequent occurrence for several years. This uncertainty is not beneficial for students, parents, educators, property owners, business owners, places of worship, civic organizations, etc. In short, it is not good for the families in our community. As a result, we have the following requests:
We, the undersigned, request the following:
- Bald Eagle Area School District provide district residents with their 5 – 10 year plan and strategy for district reorganization efforts. As part of this plan and strategy, provide the reasoning for proposed actions. If the reasoning is financial, include pertinent financial information. We would like to ensure that there is a holistic approach being taken rather than actions being disconnected, piecemeal and/or sudden.
- Individuals residing within the Bald Eagle Area School District are afforded a reasonable amount of time to review the plan, strategy, and reasoning, and provide feedback before action is taken to put the plan into motion. We are asking for transparency and for this to be an interactive process.
- Until items (1) and (2) listed above occur, that Bald Eagle Area School District cease any actions to relocate grades, classes, etc. within the district.
- A notification be sent at least twice by June 7, 2017 via the Bald Eagle Area School District phone system reminding parents that they may have their elementary school children shuttled from Wingate Elementary School to the other elementary schools in the district.
