Here I will be specifically speaking about Hillsborough County Public Schools.

In their Student Code of Conduct, it is directly stated, “Clothing traditionally designed as undergarments or sleepwear shall not be worn as outer garments.” I , along with other students, disagree with this. Yes, undergarments should not be worn while at school since they could be too revealing. But I am taking about pajamas that do not break other rules listed in the dress code, like “Hemlines shall be no shorter than fingertip length” or “Clothing that exposes the entire shoulder, tube tops, spaghetti straps, or similar type clothing, may be worn only with a blouse or shirt”.

Students should be allowed to wear pajamas to school if they desire so. Some my argue that pajamas would simply make students lazier. This is not necessarily true; I learn more effectively when I’m in comfortable clothes. Also now in the winter, even though we are in Florida, it can occasionally be very cold in the mornings. Yesterday, it took all the energy in me to switch out of my warm pajamas into cold jeans. Additionally, wearing pajamas is an example of freedom of expression, which is granted to us in the first amendment of the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution. So, let’s convince the county and wear our PJ’s!
