I started this petition to draw attention to the gross misinformation surrounding the AR15. As well as to suggest some alternatives to restricting the rights of law abiding citizens. 

All of the ‘gun crontrol laws’ being passed limiting the capacity of magazines or the possession of certain firearms only affects those who obey the laws. Firearms have been banned in Australia and the UK. Yet firearms are still finding their way into criminal hands. The UK has seen rampant knife violence in recent years. What I gather from that is that guns aren’t the problem, nor are knives. It’s a societal problem. 

What I propose is unrestricted reporting to the federal government by mental health professionals by those deemed to be a threat to themselves or others (results to be verified by other professionals), psychological screening to identify those who need to be seen for problems or issues that may potentially make them dangerous when renewing/obtaining drivers licenses and a court order to back the recommendation to ensure those people get seen, tax credit for taking firearm safety courses (basic handgun classes for conceal carry permits for example), tax deductions for the purchase of gun safes, removal of the word ‘assault weapon’ and ‘sniper rifle’ from all legal documents henceforth, and removal of federal tax on firearms as it isn’t right for a constitutionally given right to be taxed.
