On April 27, 2022 When Rep. Jean Schmidt was approached with the question if a 13 year old was raped, should she be forced to carry the child of a rapist. Jean Schmidt replied calling the rape of a child an “opportunity” for said child to give birth. Her exact words being, “It is a shame that it happens, but there’s an opportunity for that woman, no matter how young or old she is, to make a determination about what she’s going to do to help that life be a productive human being,”. There is no place in todays world for pedophilia and rape to be acceptable in any environment, especially within the governing body of the United States. It is even more revolting that she called the 13 year old in this scenario a woman instead of what the 13 year old actually is… a child. No one should have to fear there child being forced to carry a rapist’s baby because a politician said so. I implore you to sign this petition to show that we do not find these sick and perverted comments acceptable on any level of the government and that Rep. Jean Schmidt should resign immediately.
