Peter Schwartz started this petition to JCC Indianapolis

We, the undersigned members of the JCC of Indianapolis, are writing to express our disappointment regarding the delayed opening and limited hours of the Eskenazi Water Park this summer. While we understand that unforeseen problems can arise with aging infrastructure, it is unclear why routine maintenance for the summer was not conducted with enough advance timing to open the pool on schedule, especially given that last summer also saw such problems.

Even more perturbing, however, is the workforce issue. Again while we understand that lifeguards have been difficult to find this summer, there are three community pools within a five mile radius that have not had to curtail their hours this season – the Riviera Club, the Jordan YMCA and Highland Country Club.

Many of us stood faithfully by the JCC throughout the pandemic, not canceling our membership or requesting a rebate. We have encouraged friends to join. But at this point, the JCC’s approach to the Eskenazi Water Park is at best an embarrassment. It feels as though management is taking membership for granted, offering mere shrugs at the situation and empty apologies as opposed to seeking actual solutions in a timely fashion.

In short, the failures around the Water Park are simply not acceptable. We would further ask the JCC to consider whether there are steps that could be taken to win back member loyalty – such as keeping the pool open later into September, offering rebates or a pack of free guest passes when the pool does open, or arranging reciprocity with another outdoor pool that has hours throughout the weekend, not just on Saturdays.
