The number of cases of novel corona virus(COVID-19) are rising day by day. The total count has reached 73 in India , with 14 in Haryana and 2 in Uttar Pradesh. Of the two cases in Uttar Pradesh  , one is a foreign national while the other is a resident of  Muzaffarnagar. Italy , with a population of around 6.05 crores , is placed under lock down , with people to remain inside till further notice.

This virus though has low death rate , spreads easily and sustainably from person-to-person. It is considered that it majorly affects people of old age who suffer more due to low immunity. But cases in Italy prove to be contradictory to this myth.

With re-opening of college after Mid Semester break, students from different parts of the country will return to college. Close proximity inside the college with even people having cough and cold can not be avoided. People are constantly walking in and out of the college. Also , JIIT is located close to Delhi and Haryana where the cases have risen to a large extent. On top of this, JIIT is located in a metro city , day scholars, teachers ,and staff travel daily by metro, buses etc which increases chances of exposure.

Parents are concerned and are not allowing their wards to return to college.Students on the other hand with low attendance, college work etc are in a dilemma whether or not to attend the college.

Schools and colleges in Delhi NCR have been ordered to be closed till 31 march. With the governments declaring corona virus outbreak an epidemic , the college authorities should  realize the gravity of the situation and take a step to close the college till 31 March, 2019 , till the city and the country becomes stable and this chain of spread is broken.

Two weeks of college versus two weeks of quarantine, the equation seems quite simple.
