Airlines should pay travellers for delays

I was stuck at Delhi T3 waiting for 9W 2282 which was supposed to leave for Kolkata at 21:00 hrs , but finally left at 23:25 hrs and reached Kolkata at 01:35 hrs , the next day. There were numerous women passengers, with small kids, who were left to fend for themselves at 1:35 a.m identifying the right transport to reach home. What about their safety ? Who cares ?
Now here are my questions
- When passengers are late even by 5 mins , boarding passes and the right to get into the flight are declined / rejected.
- All the so called Terms and Conditions while buying a ticket are there to favour the Airlines
- They can charge just about anything ( with passengers coughing up more than Rs 50K at times for domestic economy travel) and there is currently no law to stop them
Why will the airlines not compensate the travellers if they are late ? Why will the civil aviation and the airlines operations work together to ensure that passengers get their flights on time and reach on time. Why are the Airlines not penalised when they say they have technical snags? Are they not spending enough money for maintenance ? Don't we have the basic rights to have an aircraft that works just fine?
I am completely peeved and am looking for support here. Very confident that if most of us get together , we can bring about a change, something that will bring a change in the mindset of people who will stop accepting " Delays beyond our control" or "Technical Snags" !!
It is us who can bring this change and I believe that social media is powerful enough to make people sit up and hear us.
