Why this petition matters

Started by Seattle Simplicius

On 4/28, the Wall Street Journal reported ("Local Newspapers Stumble... p. B1) that the Seattle Times (flagship of a multibillion dollar conglomerate) received $10 million in Payroll Protection Program funds intended to rescue small businesses from bankruptcy during the Covid-19 lock down. While the Seattle Times is a stern and merciless advocate of the most stringent lock down on small businesses on the verge of collapse, it has concealed its own PPP money to meet its $4 million monthly payroll.  For Seattle Times to get this money means perhaps 100-200 small businesses in Seattle (who were bumped from the program) will go bankrupt and thousands of Seattle's lowest paid workers will lose their jobs. Shame. The Seattle Times must return the money and run a full front page apology to the people of Seattle. And match it with a $10 million grant of their own money to small business in Seattle.
