REOPEN OUR INDOOR CLIMBING FACILITIES
0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!
In support of the Washington State climbing community, local climbing facilities, and the Washington Indoor Climbing Coalition, we appeal Governor Inslee to REOPEN INDOOR CLIMBING NO LATER THAN JANUARY 4TH and be reclassified separate from what the state is considering as a gym or fitness facility.
HEALTH AND SAFETY FIRST
Risk management is a vital element to the sport of rock climbing and the risks presented by Covid-19 have been taken seriously by every indoor climbing facility. Indoor climbing is inherently a lower-risk activity for COVID-19 transmission than traditional gyms or fitness studios, due to tall, open facilities, good ventilation, non-cardio activity, and the socially-distant nature of the sport. In addition to this, the climbing industry immediately modified its practices to further mitigate the risks of Covid-19 transmission through 100% masking, increased ventilation and filtration, decreased capacities and time durations, and increased sanitation stations and cleaning. We are dedicated to continuing the mitigation of transmission Covid-19 while being allowed to operate.
Our climbing community is strong! We support each other, guard over the safety of our partners, understand danger, and are dedicated to overcoming challenges. We are a determined group that will continue to advocate for climbing access while doing our part to stop the spread of Covid-19. We request that climbing gyms operate under separate guidelines from fitness permitting the consideration for reopening.
YOUTH AND HEALTHY COMMUNITIES
Our communities rely on our facilities to maintain sanctity of body, mind, and spirit particularly in the winter months when climbing outside is not available due to incremental weather. Our youth programs provided a critical outlet for our youth to stay active, grow confidence, and learn how to be resilient during times of challenge. Climbing allows for strict social distancing practices while providing crucial mental and physical health opportunities compliant with the mitigation of Covid-19.
A PHASED APPROACH
Opening safely under restricted usage and increasing in relation with each phase, indoor climbing facilities can open right away and move forward in a carefully measured progression. More information can be found here www.wiccoalition.org
