Robert Stowell started this petition to Governor Jay Inslee and

Most Americans spend 80% of their total income on rent and housing alone.

As someone who is a resident making just above minimum wage, I should be able to afford rent. I think it is absolutely wrong for the fact to exist that I work hard 40+ hrs a week and make 16$ an hour and am not able to afford to have a sustainable life. I have a one year old daughter and am a new parent, trying to make it in the world. The main component to a person's life is having some where to live it. It is 2020, there is no reason I should have to work 40 hrs a week and NOT make enough to support my family. This is a very common situation with most citizens in America, sadly.

People who work hard every day and are law abiding citizens should have an automatic opportunity granted to them to be able to sustain themselves. I understand that there are a limited amount of subsidies that one may qualify for. Myself in the grey area where I am not eligible for these assistance's or am arrived too late to receive any of the help that is offered for the limited amount of time given per year, should still be able to provide and afford proper living space for my family.

I'm quite aware that there is no reason at all for rent to be so expensive. I'm also aware that there are a lot of components and platforms to consider when discussing. I myself not knowing how to network with the CEO's and those who determine the state and price of rent am writing this in hopes that you may view this and possibly do what you are able to do, to add some help to this ongoing and ever growing problem for Washington state citizens and American citizens alike.
