Heather Thomas started this petition to Jasper County Sheriff, Carthage Police Department

My son is 18 and recently made two mistakes. He was speeding and wasn't wearing his seatbelt, mistake #1. He forgot that he had court and missed it, mistake #2. He was issued a warrant. All this is fair & right. The problem I have is they did not pull him over (he's a delivery driver at a pizza place so he's driving a lot) or even come to his house (I know because he still lives at home, he just graduated high school). No the Carthage Police Department thought the best way to handle it was to go to his work and arrest him there, which is a fire able offense. I don't think it's right that police can and do come arrest you at work. I understand that they were only 'doing their job', but I don't see how this qualifies as protect and/or serve. Or am I just confused on what the police are for? I simply don't think a contributing member of society should be arrested at work, causing them to possibly loose their job, over traffic violations. Yes he broke the law and deserves to be arrested. But he does not deserve to lose his job and have an arrest while at the restaurant in front of customers and everyone on his professional reputation, because we all know future employers will find out about it from the place that fired him. No one does. In my experience (of over 15 years fast food management) the people this happens to are single parents, or dumb kids. I've had employees arrested while at work for theft or assault, completely understandable, but a speeding ticket? It's just not right.
