Paid Family Leave in Oklahoma

HB 1815 & SB 143 require the Department of Labor to establish a family temporary disability in insurance program providing up to six weeks of wage replacement to workers who take time off to care for family or partners in the event of serious illness or birth or placement of a child.

This is an important policy that can change the lives of many Oklahomans for the better (National Partnership for Women & Families, 2018). We stand in support for this policy for the betterment of families in this state who are not able to care for their loved ones because of strained financial situations. We stand to grow awareness to the public so that they can be aware of the bill that is going through the house. This policy can help those families who make low incomes to take leave without the worry of providing for their families. This will help not only the parents, but also the family as a whole. This policy would initiate a change for Oklahoma families and make for healthier, happier families when welcoming newborns and taking care of ill loved ones.
