Prevent Discord from bringing NFTs and cryptocurrency to the app
On November 8th, 2021, Jason Citron, founder and CEO of Discord, tweeted a pre-release screenshot of a potential new feature on the Discord client. The screenshot demonstrates the ability to integrate cryptocurrency platform accounts to the desktop app.
Discord also released a survey (now closed) regarding NFTs recently towards their. (Survey link can be found here.)
NFTs and blockchain are harmful to our environment and the planet. Processing, creating, and paying for NFTs consume a large amount of electricity. According to Quartz, every NFT sale creates an average of 51 kilograms of CO2 emissions. In comparison, a typical gasoline car that runs 100 miles creates an average of 41 kilograms of CO2 emissions. Mailing an actual piece of artwork consumes much less, creating an average of 2.3 kilograms of CO2 emissions.

NFTs don't actually meet copyright criteria - most NFTs are ultimately just a bunch of text, a unique string of characters known as a token. These tokens are organized on blockchains, most existing on the Ethereum blockchain. Pieces of art, on the other hand, may actually be protected by copyright. This is why some NFTs are considered to infringe on actual art - artists need to authorize others to mint their pieces.

NFTs can potentially disrupt user experience on Discord. Supporting a system that creates massive amounts of e-waste and harm artist portfolios isn't right.
