Hopkins "Walk-Out For Our Lives"

Hello fellow Hopkins students. April 20th, 1999, 15 people were killed in the Columbine High School Massacre. And now, about two weeks ago, 17 people were killed in the shooting of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. There have been 11 school shootings this year, and it is only February. This year alone, 65 people have been killed in acts of gun violence. The lack of restriction that surrounds the gun laws in America has been leading to death after death after death. Our current administration won't do anything about it. In fact, the adults want to arm high school teachers with guns to protect their students. It is up to us, the future leaders of this country, to make a stand, specifically to stand up for ourselves and for our lives, since it is other high school kids like us that are dying. This year, on April 20th, high school kids all over America are walking out of school as a form of peaceful protest. Knowing the kids at Hopkins, none of you are willing to jeopardize your future for this, and that's fine. That's why, in place of a school walk out, we are proposing that we protest on campus, during any time that we may have free April 20th, as, since we aren't skipping class, we will not be punished. There will be signs and chants, and we will broadcast it all over social media so that our voices may be heard. Student council is speaking to faculty members to try to organize an all school walkout, where we will be able to protest without our academic careers being damaged. I ask that you join me, join us, on our mission of keeping America's schools save. I ask that you, the members of the Hopkins community, sign this petition, and spread the word on your social media. You do not have to take part in this if you don't want to. However, I ask that you decide to join, and do what is right. Thank you for your time and support.
